It is an age old story, now playing out on the literary list making scene. It is amusing, entertaining, and all about books.
What am I talking about? This week to much fanfare, The New Yorker published its list of the Top 20 Writers Under 40. It has been 10+ years since the last list which included Michael Chabon and Jhumpa Lahiri.
In response, Ward Six, a daily digest of book reviews, literary analysis, personal observations, anecdotes, and opinions, published this list of the Ten best Authors over 80.
Although the New Yorker has a great track record of identifying young authors who have what it takes, it is hard to argue with the Ward Six list which includes Elmore Leonard, Doris Lessing, and Beverley Cleary!
I am enjoying following this mini-feud. And, there are no losers here; only us readers as winners with more authors and books for us to add to our to-read lists.
