George Guidall has narrated over 900 audiobooks in his long and distinguished career. He is one of the key narrators I discuss with my students every semester too.
Yesterday, he was on NPR talking about his career and, more importantly, the appeal of audiobooks. Obviously the topic was quite popular as it made my "Most Emailed Stories" podcast for NPR. Click here to read and or listen to the interview for yourself.

I used to really hate listening to George Guidall, but now I think it's just because the books I was listening to him read were so very, very awful. I'm now listening to him read the 5th book of the "Dark Tower" series, and really enjoying him. The only thing I don't like, and it's like nails on a chalkboard, is when he reads a woman's dialog. His voices for women are just terrible. But for the rest of the narrative, he is amazing.
