Women in Horror Month 2015

Today I am allowing RA for All Horror to take over the blog to alert you all that February is Women in Horror Month. And, since I am a woman in horror I celebrate by running a 2x a week mini blog-a-thon over on the horror blog.

I will generally be posting there on Wednesdays and Fridays all month long. But today, you don't have to move. The first post is below.

2015 Women in Horror Month: Links and Schedule

It's February which means it is time for Women in Horror Month. From the official webpage:

Women in Horror Month (WiHM) assist female genre artists in gaining opportunities, exposure, and education through altruistic events, printed material, articles, interviews, and online support. WiHM seeks to expose and break down social constructs and miscommunication between female professionals while simultaneously educating the public about discrimination and how they can assist the female gender in reaching equality.

As a woman in horror, I am participating with post 2x a week for the entire month focusing on the contributions of women to the genre.

Today, to kick off the event on my blog I wanted to start with some library friendly resources on the topic:

• The WiHM website has a ton of information and links, but your first stop should be their "Get Involved" page. It includes very simple ways you can acknowledge and recognize the contributions of women to horror.  The page even has a link to this great display at a library [pictured on the left]. I always do a small but centrally located display at my library too.
• My colleague and fellow female librarian in horror, Kirsten, over at The Monster Librarian is also celebrating. Check out what she has going on all month.
• The Horror Writers Association tackles the issues and problems surrounding women in horror head on.  Last year they had this roundtable discussion about Sexism in Horror.
• If you want to read the best collections of horror and dark fiction, in general, but with assurances that women are appropriately represented, read any compilation edited by Ellen Datlow.
• From Hellnotes: Top 25 Women Horror Writers You Probably Haven't Heard of But Should Know. Many of these women are authors whose books are on your shelves right now! Why not pull them to make a quick display.
• In February of 2013, Librarian of the Dead did a special spotlight on Women in Horror Comics. Worth a click through.

So peruse these links to get you started and I will be back 2x a week all month with posts that spotlight some of the best women in horror.
