Summer Reading: Novellas

Novellas as a great choice for reading anytime of year, but I often hear from readers that they especially love them in summer. People might have 2 days off to relax outside or a long weekend vacation and they want something that they know they can get lost in and finish. Novellas, with their 39,000 and under word count (approx 200 pages or less) are a great choice to counteract this .

I mean, they are a great choice all year long, but as the summer winds down, but the days still stay nice, give people a display or online list of novellas. Call it something like, "Books you Can Finish in a Day." Don't use book people jargon like "novellas" or you will confuse them.

I am not the only one noticing the mainstream acceptance of the novella, NoveList recently had this blog post about the popularity of shorter reads, explaining how they have added "Novella" as a genre search term to make it easier for you to find them for your readers. Details are here

Best-selling author Josh Malerman's next book (out this month) is 5 novellas in 1volume. Click here to see how much I loved it.

You can click also here to find every time I have written about or reviewed a novella

Visit Goodreads for a crowd sourced list of the "World Greatest Novellas," or go here to see the genre page on Goodreads for "novella." This page will have new, recent, and all time favorite novellas.

Book Riot has many novellas themed lists here, but they also have this list from 2016 of 100 Must-Read Novellas.

Embrace a short and immersive read. Something your readers can spend a few hours with, from start to finish. These resources should give you plenty of options.
