ARRT Literary Book Discussion and Leadership Training: Notes for All the Light We Cannot See and Announcing the Next Discussion

On April 21st,  we met to discuss All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.

Click here to access the notes on the discussion of the book.

After the book discussion, I led the Leadership Training Discussion focusing on the following connected issues regarding the administration of book groups at your library:
  • How do you attract new people?
  • How do you convince your supervisor to let you add more book groups?
  • Who leads book discussions at your library? Paid staff or volunteers?
Click here to access the notes on the leadership topic of the book.

I would also like to announce the next discussion.

Please join us for a discussion of The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt led by Stacey Peterson.

When the Sisters brothers—professional hit men in the old West—agree to do “one last job,” things go horribly awry. A Western/mystery/historical fiction mash-up that’s funny and irreverent and sad and shortlisted for the Booker Prize. (How often does that happen with a Western?)

The group will be meeting:
Date: July 20, 2016
Time: 2:00 to 4:00 pm
Location: Batavia Public Library

As always, discussion of the book includes a nuts-and-bolts session devoted to sharing practical solutions to the problems and concerns of book discussion leaders.

The Leadership Training Discussion, led by Elizabeth Hopkins, will offer participants a chance to share their favorite under the radar book discussion gems.  Please come ready to book talk a title or two that worked really well with your group. Try to focus on less obvious choices.  We will turn the notes into a Library Aware bibliography that everyone can share with their book groups.  Also, feel free to bring questions about specific titles you might want to try but aren't sure about to see if anyone has tried them already.

For more information about this discussion [including RSVP info], the book discussion and leadership training program, and ARRT in general please visit the website.

Please note, you must be a member of ARRT to participate, but the notes are always offered free to anyone who using the links here on RA for All or the official Literary Book Discussion and Leadership Training website.
