Happy Columbus Day-- a popular day for library in-service training. I know this because I booked this date with New Albany-Floyd County Public Library 11 months ago, and I had 3 more libraries contact me in the meantime to ask for me to come to then on that date.
We have a fun, instructive, and interactive day planned-- with pens and stickers for all and tote bags for a luck few.
It all kicks off from 8:30 - 10:30 am when the entire library staff will get to experience my signature RA for All program. Today I am debuting a new rule. Details, including the handout and a program description can be found on my Becky’s 10 Rules of Basic RA Service page.
Then after a 15 minute break we will all reconvene from 10:45-12 for Booktalking: Harnessing the Power of Sharing Books with Patrons. Today's version features a brand new horror book talk based on this article. Program description:

Then we will all have lunch together. That is one of my favorite parts about providing an entire day of training at a library. No, not the food, but the chance to sit at a table and have informal conversation with the library workers.
Back to work from 1 - 4:30 pm when I will be providing a completely re-vamped version of my popular genre training program for the library's public desk staff in YS, YA, and Adult. The program has been updated to include Teen and Kids' titles and resources but more importantly, the library is putting this breakout session in a computer lab where we can work on their real life questions... together. Not only am I excited to get to help them answer actual questions, but I am also thrilled to help facilitate the team building part of this program-- YS, YA, and Adult library workers sharing and learning from each other! It is a double dose of awesomeness-- maximizing the training in two equally important facets at one time.
