Monday Discussion: Feel Better Reading

The Monday Discussion is delayed today because I had to pick up a sick kid at school.  That got me thinking though...What do you like to read when you are not feeling well?

For my 6 year old son, the answer has been easy, Star Wars books.  We read 2 together and he is now looking through a few of his larger Star Wars encyclopedias while relaxing on his bed.

For me I like to read graphic novels when I am not feeling well, or I listen to an audio book.  The graphic novels work well for me because the combination of words and pictures still allows me to experience a great story, but it is less taxing on my sick self than straight text reading.  I think it is because I am using both parts of my brain equally instead of just taxing one half.

Audiobooks work because it is soothing to me.  There is nothing like someone telling you a good story when you don't feel well.  I can lay in the dark, close my eyes and still get to "read."

So what about you?  For today's tardy discussion, what do you like to read when you are feeling under the weather?

Usually compilations of art or photography. I don't get sick very often but if I do it seems to hit my morale worse than my body. Art tends to pull my spirits up perhaps because it reminds me of trips I've taken to other countries and good memories associated with the images. Books about world architecture with lots of pictures are another fav choice.

I have to confess -- I don't read much when I'm sick. I usually think I'm going to, but when I'm actually sick, I just don't have the energy. I actually like watching old movies, mostly film noir stuff and 1940s romances. Sorry, Becky.

Betty you make a great point, don't apologize. We still have DVDs at the library too.
