Today is the first Monday in March so I figured it was a good time to ask everyone to share their favorite female author here.
I'll go first.
In contemporary fiction-- writers currently publishing-- this is an easy choice for me. Although I enjoy many female authors, 2 of my absolute favorite authors, people for whom I have read every book and love them all are Kate Atkinson and Gillian Flynn.
When I think back to female authors from the past, the first female author that popped into my mind, immediately, was Louisa May Allcott. I loved Little Women as both a child and as an adult.

I'm with Becky on Alcott, but also on Johanna Spyri for Heidi as far as childhood books are concerned.
I'm also very fond of Jacqueline Winspear for the Maisie Dobbs series. And would the female half of the Charles Todd duo count for the Ian Rutledge series? And Elizabeth Wein, Emma Donoghue, Asa Larsson, S. J. Bolton. And the classics -- Pearl Buck and Willa Cather and Edna Ferber.
Too many to have a favorite.
