Shirley Jackson Awards Finalists Announced!

I have so much love for Shirley Jackson that it is hard to contain. But whether or not you enjoy her work, you cannot deny that her influence on today's fiction is HUGE. Two of fiction’s biggest trends are genre blending [see this post for details] and the current popularity of an increasingly more intense and terrifying kind of female driven psychological suspense best illustrated by Gillian Flynn.

Jackson is so unique that there is even an entire award named after her:

In recognition of the legacy of Shirley Jackson’s writing, and with permission of the author’s estate, The Shirley Jackson Awards, Inc. has been established for outstanding achievement in the literature of psychological suspense, horror, and the dark fantastic. 

The Shirley Jackson Awards are voted upon by a jury of professional writers, editors, critics, and academics. The awards are given for the best work published in the preceding calendar year in the following categories:  Novel, Novella, Novelette, Short Story, Single-Author Collection, and Edited Anthology.

This award is a wonderful resource for anyone who likes these kind of stories. Below I have attached the brand new nominees. You can also read them here.
