Listen to Me Talk Directly to Authors on the Oh My Word! Podcast

Recently, a friend from the overlap of my horror and library worlds, Kelly Powers, suggested me to be on a podcast hosted by E.L. Tenenbaum called "Oh My Word!"

Here's a bit about Tenenbaum:

E. L. Tenenbaum is the author of several YA fantasy and contemporary novels. She is also a co-host of Oh My Word! Podcast. Find out more at www.ELTenenbaum.com

I am always happy to have the chance to chat with authors about the library, what we do, and how we can help them. Since this is a podcast that is geared toward writers, I was very clear about how we can best work together and how our world functions.

I spent time discussing why reviews in library journals are different than longer reviews in traditional media. I also talked about why authors need to work with libraries and how they should NOT behave.

And finally, stay until the end to hear me share my favorite thing authors do [hint, it has to do with working with libraries] and my least favorite thing in the books world [hint, you can find it in this post].

I think this is an important podcast for you, the library worker, to listen to because I am constantly giving a version of this talk to authors as I educate them on what we do. Since I have been doing this for a few years now, I have the message down to some easy to use soundbites. For example, I remind authors that people who use the library, on average, spend more fo their own money on books than people who do not.

You can listen to my appearance here. It's only 30ish minutes.

And, the aforementioned Kelly Powers, middle school librarian and author herself, has her own appearance to listen to here.
