RA Links Round-Up

I plan to have another review up late tonight (read: after kids go to bed), but for now, here are some links of interest.

• I am currently working on a list of Game of Thrones readalikes.  It will be for the TV show and the books, much like this popular one I did for True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse. So this list of books Joffrey might enjoy caught my eye.
• From the Seattle Public Library's awesome RA blog, Shelf Talk, here is an annotated list and short essay about "The New Gothic Novel."
• OMG...Justin Cronin reading from The Twelve.  This post from Grasping for the Wind also has links to other authors reading from their books.
• Years ago I read Stefan Fatsis's fascinating book Word Freak about the world of competitive Scrabble.  This week, I heard him on NPR talking about a cheating scandal at this year's event.  Here is an article with details.
• The Wall St Journal ran this article about the best book podcasts.  I also covered this territory in an article for NoveList back in March.  My article also contains blog you might have missed too.
• It's SHARK WEEK!!!  Book Riot ran this list of 4 books to go with your viewing.  Also, if you have a chance to stop by the BPL, John put up an impromptu display of "Scary Fish" books, complete with an actual taxidermy piranha that he found, no joke, in a box of donated books a while back.
• The Thurber Prize for American Humor finalists were announced this week. 
• The USA Today runs down this Fall's "bookish" movies.
