Here is an interesting list with analysis from Forbes about the world's top paid authors.
As I am sure it will come as no surprise to any librarian out there, the man who eats most of our book budget each and every year....James Patterson tops the list. Well, if you author or co-author 7-8 books a year, and I have to buy at least 7 copies (if not more) of each, what do you think is going to happen?
So after Patterson, there is the rest of the list. Again, click here to see it all. But one thing that Forbes has noticed this year is how many women are quickly making their way up the list.
Take a look for yourself and realize how very few authors ever "make it rich" from their writing. Then take a look at your library shelves, contemplate the huge number of authors in your collections, and then look at the list. It is just further proof that authors write because they love to do it; they do not do it for the money.
Finally, compare what one of these authors makes for using their imagination to create stories that enthrall us with what Kim Kardashian makes for breathing. Scary, no?
Have a nice weekend.
