31 Days of Horror's 10th Birthday Celebration!

It is the first day of October and that means I have begun my 31 day blog-a-thon over on the horror blog.  I will be posting there every single day all month long. While I will continue to also post here on week days, the horror blog is where you will find my most dynamic and interesting information this month.

Let's get things started with the official 10th Anniversary post:

31 Days of Horror: Day 1-  Year 10 Begins With a Giveaway!

Welcome to 31 Days of Horror. This is an annual event when I post on the horror blog every single day  for 31 straight days in order to take advantage of your attention on the genre during its most popular  month.

Today also marks 31 Days of Horror's 10th Anniversary! It doesn't seem possible, but there it is. And because I am a librarian first and a horror maven second, you can easily access the 9 previous years of content at this link. Please take advantage of the backlist of content available to you, for free, with a single click. You do not need to be overwhelmed by your influx of horror requests this month. I have done the work for you already.

This year you can expect another round of posts by authors and library workers who I invited to share "Why I Love Horror." New this year is an every Friday feature in conjunction with Library Journal [beginning tomorrow], and of course lots of resources, reading recs and bonus content.

Over the weekend I will post a few tutorials on how to best use this blog to help yourself and your readers, but today is not only the 1st day of our 10th blog-a-thon journey together, but it is also a Thursday and for the last few months that has meant a #HorrorForLibraries giveaway here on the blog.

I am going to try to keep up the giveaways during October, but I cannot promise that due to the large amount of content I have planned. They may be more scattered or hidden in other posts, so get your entries in now so you are already entered when they do happen.

Here are the basic rules followed by this week's giveaway--  one of the most anticipated horror titles of  the season.

  1. You need to be affiliated with an American public library. My rationale behind that is that I will be encouraging you to read these books and share them with patrons. While many of them are advanced reader copies that you cannot add to your collections, if you get the chance to read them, my hope is that you will consider ordering a copy for your library and give away the ARC away as a prize or pass it on to a fellow staff member.
  2. If you are interested in being included in any giveaway at any time, you must email me at zombiegrl75 [at] gmail [dot] com with the subject line "#HorrorForLibraries." In the body of the email all you have to say is that you want to be entered and the name of your library.
  3. Each entry will be considered for EVERY giveaway. I will randomly draw a winner on Fridays sometime after 5pm central. But only entries received by 5pm will be considered.
  4. If you win, you are ineligible to win again for 4 weeks; you will have to re-enter after that time to be considered [I have a list of who has won, when, and what title]. However, if you do not win, you carry over into the next week. There is NO NEED to reenter.

This week I have a giveaway of one of the books that appears in my October 2020  Horror Review Column in Library Journal. [I will be posting access to the reviews on Monday] but today, I have a sneak peek.

The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher is inspired by Blackwood’s “The Willows,” a story that terrified Lovercraft. This is an imaginative, intense story, with a rich cinematic frame that is both enticing and terrifying. It is a story filled with regret,  madness, and an overdue coming of age, overflowing with tension but also including a sweet and amusing friendship to provide necessary moments of respite. This unsettling, character driven story of a young woman in search of herself reads like a darker, more macabre version of Alice in Wonderland

Enter now to get your hands on this ARC courtesy of the publisher [S&S].

And stay tuned for more 31 Days of Horror every day this month.
