Getting Ready for Today's Adult Books and Media Awards Announcement

At 3pm Central today, RUSA, NoveList, and Booklist are hosting a webinar with the live announcement of  the best adult titles as chosen by library workers-- RUSA Books a Media Awards.

Below, I have included a list of the awards being announced so you can click on the name of the award to go directly to the RUSA archive of past award winners for each category.

But before you dive in to that treasure trove of resources, and before you get ready to watch the exciting announcements, I wanted to draw your attention to one of my favorite resources that Booklist creates in relation to the Andrew Carnegie Medal finalists. They ask each of the 3 Fiction and 3 Nonfiction finalists  to prepare a list of books they would like to share with us, the library worker, while we await the announcement of the winner.

Those finalist authors are:

Fiction: Ayad Akhtar, Megha Majumdar, and James McBride

Nonfiction: Rebecca Giggs, Claudia Rankine, and Natasha Trethewey

Click here to see information about their nominated titles and to access the list of what each finalist wants you to read.

These are recs directly from the finalist authors, with sound bite info that you  can share with  readers immediately. Also, if you  have  any patrons who are particular  fans of any of  these books or authors, pass these lists on immediately to them. Why? Most readers love recs from their  favorite authors. I have an entire post about that here.

Here is the schedule of events with links to each award archive. Tomorrow I will post the winners in one  place.

See some of you there [signup here if you haven't already].
