Look, I want to end the year on a positive note as much as the next person, but we cannot let our guard down against the highly organized, well funded, and determined organized effort to remove all books that mention LGBTQ and or people of color from libraries and schools.
These bad actors are using the distraction of the Holidays to keep pushing their agenda with the hope that they can edge a little closer toward erasing the experiences of non white, cis, heterosexual people from our schools and libraries. Because that is their goal-- erasure. It is not "protecting the children," It is erasure of entire swaths of the population. This is driven by hate.
The best thing you can do to help stop them is to stay informed, and I have two easy options for you based on your preferences.
1. You can bookmark this link to Book Riot's censorship coverage and check it yourself, daily.
2. You can subscribe here to Book Riot's 2x a week Library newsletter-- Check Your Shelf-- which will come to your inbox and always includes links to many of the same censorship stories.
Up to you-- check yourself or have it delivered to you. But just stay aware and vigilant. I hate that we can never rest on this issue, but this is too important to allow it to fade into the background.
