Robin and I have been working with NoveList to offer our Actively Anti-Racist Service to Readers training through their Learn With NoveList (LWN) platform. Here are the details and a video of us introducing the course.
Recently, Robin and I reflected upon our experience and the first live Q&A with our cohort of learners and wrote about it for the NoveList Blog here (and posted below). Please take a look, but spoiler, it went even better than we had hoped.
There is still time for you to take our class, to learn from us asynchronously, and then join us in April, July and September for more interactive, live sessions with both of us and your fellow learners. We are hoping some of you who came in January, come back in April as well. If you register for the class, you can come to as many of the live sessions as you want. More explanation here and below.
For the most up to date news on what Robin and I are offering and where we will be next, turn to our Actively Anti-Racist Service to Leisure Readers Homepage. You can also still hire us to present to your library or system as well. All of the details and pricing options (including the LWN class) are at this link.

Libraries collaborate to improve service to readers
Back in October, we introduced our course, Actively Anti-Racist Service to Readers. This is the first Learn with NoveList course to offer both asynchronous and live elements. After learners complete the self-paced material, they have opportunities to interact through discussion boards, and they receive an invitation to meet with us and their fellow learners for a two-hour live session.
We had our first live session in January 2023, and we loved it so much — so we wanted to share some of the highlights of our experience with all of you:
First, we loved being part of your ongoing conversations. We not only saw how our ideas were being discussed, but we also got to hear back from learners about the tips that worked immediately. Learners shared that they need more help increasing buy-in from other staff and managers. The wonderful thing about the live sessions is that everyone can come together to further the shared learning experience in real time.
Second, even though we filmed the asynchronous learning modules a few months ago, the live sessions allow us to update our information and share things we have learned both from other libraries we have visited and from course learners. The number of questions and level of engagement we experienced exceeded our expectations. As seasoned presenters, it takes a lot to surprise us, and these live sessions did just that. This learning community is committed to doing the work and helping each other succeed. We were blown away by how many of you took the action steps from the course, tried them out in your libraries, and then came back with real world feedback for us.
Finally, we saw first-hand how this course truly does last all year long.
If you haven’t enrolled in the course, now is the time. Once you finish the self-paced material, which will take about two hours, you can attend one of our live sessions. We have three live sessions coming up in April, July, and September of 2023. We are excited to meet some new learners and we hope that some of those who finished the course and attended our first live session will come back for more conversation. If you sign up for this course, you'll be a member of the 2023 cohort of learners. This is truly a collaborative environment that allows for asynchronous and live learning in a supportive atmosphere. And as the year goes on, the learning is enhanced and deepened by everyone’s participation.
Purchase now and get $40 off by using the coupon code ANTIRACIST. Additionally, with our group rates, you can even save more. So, register with your team today and unlock up to 40 percent off the course price. To register, simply head over to Learn with NoveList and purchase the course using your credit card. Once you have completed the purchase, you will receive an email with all the necessary information to access the course.
Join us today and start your journey towards being an actively anti-racist reader service. There's still time to complete the course before our next live session in April. Let's make a difference together.
