It is a catch up week for everyone. In fact, I have mostly emails, meetings about scheduling things, and reviews to write all week. I also have content to promote in both Booklist and Library Journal including 3 HUGE reviews of hotly anticipated books in one and my Horror Genre Preview in the other. But that is for Tuesday and Wednesday, today I have the links to all of the awesome content in the July issue of Booklist.
I love that Booklist gives a whole issue over to Graphic Novels for all ages every year, and July is the perfect month for it.
First and most exciting, they make an entire supplementary issue on the format and it is free digitally to any and all right here and below.
Booklist’s Guide to Graphic Novels in Libraries is live and, as always, the digital version is free to all readers! As with previous years, you’ll read our latest thoughts about comic bans and the growth of manga, but you’ll also learn how to slow down while reading this unique format, its many subgenres, and its potential in higher education. And don’t miss this year’s original comics either, of course! Read the digital edition now!You can also use this link to pull up every issue of Booklist's annual Guide to Graphic Novels going back to the first one in 2019. There is a lot of excellent backlist content here, information you can use RIGHT NOW to serve your graphic novel readers.
Second, they use the July issue proper to give you the regular spotlight content on Graphic Novels for all ages of readers with my added backlist access to use the last few years of GN spotlights for displays, lists, and collection development:
- Top 10 Graphic Novels Fiction: 2024
- Top 10 Graphic Novels Nonfiction: 2024
- 2024 is the first year nonfiction was separated out in the Adult category
- Top 10 Middle Grade Graphic Novels: 2024
- Top 10 YA Graphic Novels: 2024 (from the Feb 1 issue)
- Manga Essentials: Upcoming Anime Adaptations
- Manga Essentials: Popular Web Comics in Print
Finally, don't forget that the Eisner Awards are also this month. Here is my post with all of this year's nominees and instructions on how to accesses and use the backlist
Come back tomorrow for my 3[!] high demand Horror reviews from this same issue as well.
