The last 3 days of the blog has been a bit on the heavier side, so I thought we could all use something lighter and VERY positive. Last week, The Guardian had this article about the growing number of men reading romance. From that link:
The secret lives of men who read romance books: ‘My life is full of love, so I’m drawn to them’
It’s often assumed straight men are not interested in romantic fiction – but many are sharing their passion in forums online
Click here to read the full article.
What I love about this article isn't that more men are reading romance, it is that more of them are admitting it publicly.
Those of us who work at libraries already knew we had straight men romance readers. This is not news to us. But that does not mean we should not celebrate this news.
Articles like this will also lead more straight mean to our libraries so that they can give this popular genre a try for themselves.
Be ready to help them by having displays and lists ready; in your buildings, online, and in your digital reading apps.
I just wrote about Booklist's Romance Spotlight in the September issue. Start there. You can also check out my list of my favorite free genre resources here -- scroll to Romance.
Make it easy for new romance readers and the romance curious to find great reads without having to ask for help.
