RA for All Virtual Roadshow is Recharging Your Book Club for PCI

Today, I will be attending the ILA Conference online most of the day, but I will be taking a break in the middle of the day to present Recharge Your Book Club for PCI Webinars. You can click here to access the slides.

This is one of my standard programs that is getting popular again. In 2020, book discussion groups were one of the library programs that were able to continue virtually. Libraries found that once they got their book groups set up on Zoom, not only could they continue to function, but they have also thrived. Many libraries are going to continue virtual book discussions even after they return to in-person.

One of the reasons Book Discussions work well on Zoom is that they are not large in number of attendees. The sweet spot for the best discussions is 12-15 ppl, but between 10-20 should be your target. Many libraries are finding that hitting at least 10 every month is easier on Zoom, while the size means everyone appears on the screen at the same time. In many cases, it is MORE intimate than in person because everyone's face is in full view. In a room, around a table, it is hard to look at everyone at the same time. This intimacy also increases participation all around.

I could go on and on about the resurgence in the book discussion in 2021, but some of that will be saved for the program today. I more point it all out to remind you that all book club leaders, no matter their experience level, can all use some training. If you need training for the book club leaders in your system or at the state level, reach out. I have a variety of lengths and options. Some even include a discussion so your facilitators can experience being a participant for a change [one of my biggest tips for recharging].

Also if your library subscribes to PCI recordings, know that this one will be available at no additional cost. And I am also working with PCI to get a suite of 5 of my more recent programs [including this one] up on Niche Academy. That is another pre-paid option for me to train you.

See some of you later or when you watch the recording.
