It's June and that means we are closing in on the halfway point of the year. And even though just yesterday I was focused on Ultimate Summer Reading lists, this halfway point also means that the "Best of the year so far" lists are out.
This is a great way to promote the books that have 2024 pub dates, but that your patrons may have missed. This is also a good chance to use my "best lists" tab to pull up more options than you can use to attract readers to your displays and lists. And it is an even better chance to merge all of this "best" talk into everything I said yesterday about Summer Reading Lists. All of these lists can be used interchangeably. What you call the display or list is up to you.
Also a reminder from yesterday: this is also a great time to use my conversation starter to display post to ask your staff and readers to share the best books they have read so far this year. Note, I did not say, best books that came out in 2024. Keep it broader. Find out what they have loved the most and you can not only make a display, but get some, in real time, feedback about what has been the "best" for your patrons this year so far.
If you follow this interactive RA advice you can build your own "Our Library's Favorite Books of 2024 So Far" list and display.
Here are some of the most useful, popular, and not behind a paywall "Best Books of 2024 So Far" lists to help you start the conversation at your library:
- Readers' Favorite Books of 2024 So Far via Goodreads
- The Best Books of 2024 (So Far) via Vulture
- Barnes & Noble's Best Books of the Year (So Far)
- And via Book Riot, this article breaking that list down
- The Best Books of 2024 So Far via Time Magazine
- Best Books of 2024 (so far) via the NYT but since it has a paywall, here is a free YouTube video breaking it down.
- The Best, Most Talked-About Books of 2024 (so far) via W Magazine
- I like this one because it has a slightly different scope
- Amazon hasn't released their list yet, but they are always doing Editor's Picks on the Amazon Book Review site here
- Best Books of 2024 (So Far) via Esquire
