Today is part 2 of the end of the year Monday Discussion wrap up. What I want to know today is what 2014 release was your favorite this year?
I’ll go first. I have two-- Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel followed very closely by Josh Malerman’s Bird Box. Click on the titles for details.
What about you? Share your favorite book published this year.
And don’t forget to head on over to the Browser’s Corner to see more best picks from the BPL staff. They ran all last week and will continue through this week. I may even have a few more during the first week in January after some people come back from vacation.
For past Monday Discussions, click here.
Back tomorrow and Wednesday then off the rest of the week.

Landline by Rainbow Rowell and We Were Liars by E. Lockhart :)
I have four that I cannot stop recommending: Bird Box by Josh Malerman, Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, This is the Water by Yannick Murphy and Neverhome by Laird Hunt. Enjoy!
Prince Lestat by Anne Rice. I recommended it for our community reads project.
For me, it was The Martian. Witty, engaging, warmhearted yet scifi to the max. A really great read.
The Martian - Andy Weir; Bird Box - Josh Malerman; The Troop - Nick Cutter; We Were Liars - E. Lockhart; Bittersweet - Miranda Beverly-Whittemore
My favorites this year were both additions to beautifully quirky series.
I loved "Cress" by Marissa Meyer - #3 in the Lunar Chronicles. "Cress" is a futuristic retelling of Rapunzel. Instead of living in a tall tower with no entrance, however, Cress lives on a satellite and all she knows of human interactions is what she has seen on her port screens. She is a hopeful romantic and the most vulnerable of Meyer's hardcore, kick-ass heroines
I also enjoyed "Hollow City" by Ransom Riggs, the sequel to "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children." The story picks up where the first left off, with the children trying to locate other peculiars and ymbrynes to help them save all of peculiardom. And it ends with yet another cliff-hanger. So, I'm sure I'll be reading #3 when it's available (expected release date: September 2015).
There are still SO MANY BOOKS to read! My "To Be Read" pile is taller than I am!
