I have to say Frank Delaney. The Matchmaker of Kenmare had me captivated.
My favorite Irish author, by far, is Oscar Wilde. The Picture of Dorian Gray is perhaps the greatest novel ever written on the question of human identity. The fact that passages from the book were used to send Wilde to jail yet compound the power of the work. In both his poetry and fiction he had a dark elegance and grace uncommon in Irish literature. A style more pleasant to read than even the British and French writers of his day.
Tana French. I can't get enough of her mysteries.
Becky, I think your blog hates me. I don't know why my name was omitted from my comment above, but could it be restored? Thank you.
I have to second that vote for Tana French. I cannot recommend her books enough! I also loved The Testament of Mary by Colm Toibin.
I'm going to have to agree that Oscar Wilde should be at the top of the list.
I cannot believe I forgot Tana French. I love her too!! Almost as lib as Roddy Doyle. Thanks all.
